2012 Global Energy Prize Goes to Russian President Vladimir Putin

The World Energy Forum 2012 kicked off in Dubai on October 22. United Arab Emirates PM Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is to give out six prizes at a solemn award ceremony tonight, the first of its kind to be conducted outside the UN headquarters.


The World Energy Forum comprises over 20 heads of state, 40 energy ministers and executives of over 200 corporations.

The Global Energy Prize is one of the world's most respected energy awards given for contribution to energy sector, environmental protection and sustaining a steady rate of economic growth.

Environmental award will be bestowed on South Korean President Lee Myung-bak. The Woman in Energy Award will go to Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke, while Global Smart Grid Federation will receive its prize for innovative technologies. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority will be awarded for its practical contribution to the energy sector. The Humanitarian Award is set to go to the Biogas Project Division.
