Awesome Kid Craft Projects for Father's Day

Father's Day is quickly approaching and what better way to give "Dad" a gift that comes straight from the heart and made with love! Try one of these awesome craft projects with your kids for Father's Day!

Make Dad an awesome grilling apron, here's what you will need:
White canvas apron, in Dad's size, available at craft stores

Masking tape
Fabric paints of different colors

Paintbrushes
Mark off sections of the apron with masking tape, this way each child gets to create their own masterpiece.

Remove the tape and set the paint according to the manufacturer's directions

A great craft project for the younger kiddos would be the Fisherman Bear Paper Craft here's what you will need:
paper
glue
scissors
Print out the template here and here. You need both templates to make one bear.

Color (where appropriate). Cut out the template pieces. (the pieces on the template are at about the angle they will be on the finished craft. That should help you sort out which pieces belong where)
Glue pieces together: Glue the smaller oval (tummy) onto the large oval body. Add the arms and legs onto the body. Glue on the head. Add the muzzle and eyes. Add the nose. Glue the fish into one hand and fishing rod into the other. Glue on the hat.

Dads Mosaic Coasters, here's what you will need:
metal jar lids

plaster of Paris
sea glass, seashells, smooth pebbles, mosaic tiles, broken pottery, letter beads or tiles or scrabble tiles to spell names or words
felt
scissors
glue
Mix plaster of Paris. Pour into the metal jar lid. If your “mosaic” pieces are much thinner than the lid is shallow, you might want to allow the plaster of Paris to start to set for about 10 minutes. Alternatively, you could pour a layer, allow to set to create a base, then pour another, fresh, wet layer. Kids can place words (like “Daddy” or “Love”) and then put other tiles and pebbles around the word in any design they like. Allow to dry (plaster will be dry in about 20 minutes). Trace and cut a circle of felt and glue to the bottom of the lid to prevent table scratches.

  1. I am working on putting together a "round-up" of craft projects made using Scrabble tiles. I came across your mosaic coaster craft and wonder if I could use it in the round-up? The round-up will simply be a list of projects and a link to it on your blog. I would also like to include a small thumbnail for the project (approximately 120 x 120px). My website is http://familycrafts.about.com/ and this round up would look similar to this one: http://familycrafts.about.com/od/giftstomake/tp/HomeMadeGiftIdeas.htm. Of course, you will be given full credit for the link and the picture. :-) Thanks! Sherri
